This site does not use cookies and does not collect any personal information. Your theme preference (dark, light, or system default) and your consent choices are saved in your browser’s localStorage as site preferences. This data never leaves your device.

Data Collection & Processing

Geolocation Detection

Your browser location (EU or non-EU) is detected to determine which privacy rules apply to you. This is done via a request to a geolocation service, and the result is cached in sessionStorage. It is never stored permanently or sent to our servers.

YouTube Video Embeds

Some articles contain embedded YouTube videos. These are always shown as static thumbnails; no video loads and no data is sent to YouTube until you click play.

  • Non-EEA, non-UK visitors: clicking play loads the video immediately.
  • EEA and UK visitors: clicking play checks your consent for the Third-party embeds category. If you have not yet consented, the preferences overlay opens. If you have declined, the thumbnail shows a prompt to update your preferences.

Thumbnail images are served by YouTube’s image CDN (i.ytimg.com). Videos embed via youtube-nocookie.com to minimize tracking. After a video loads, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies and is outside the scope of this policy.

X (Twitter) Post Embeds

Some articles may contain embedded X posts. These are rendered as static quoted text at build time; no JavaScript is loaded and no request is made to X when you view the page. The post content is fetched from X’s oEmbed API during site deployment, not on your device.

Performance Monitoring

This site uses Cloudflare Real User Monitoring (RUM) to collect page performance metrics and improve the site experience.

  • No cookies or fingerprinting: The RUM beacon does not use cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, or device fingerprinting. It does not track users across pages or visits.
  • Data collected: Page load performance metrics (such as load time and rendering speed), along with referrer and landing page URLs. Data is ephemeral and relates only to the current page load.
  • IP address: The source IP address is discarded at the nearest Cloudflare data center and is not stored.
  • EEA and UK visitors: RUM data collection is disabled for visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom. No performance data is sent from EEA or UK-based visits.
  • Data processor: For non-EEA, non-UK visitors, Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) processes this data. More information is available in Cloudflare’s Data Processing Addendum.

Site search is powered by Pagefind, which runs entirely in your browser. The search index is bundled with the site; no search queries or results are sent to any external server.

Hosting

This site is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process request metadata (such as IP addresses) as part of serving the site and providing DDoS protection. This is handled by Cloudflare in accordance with their privacy policy.

Your Consent & Preferences

EEA and UK visitors are shown a consent banner on their first visit. The banner covers a single opt-in category:

  • Essential (always on): theme preference in localStorage; stays on your device.
  • Third-party embeds (opt-in): YouTube videos. See YouTube Video Embeds section for details. X (Twitter) post embeds are not included here; they are rendered as static quotes at build time with no runtime requests.

Consent is stored in your browser’s localStorage under the key consent. It is never sent to any server. EEA and UK visitors can update or revoke their choices at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the site footer.

We do not sell or share personal information and do not engage in targeted advertising. Residents of California and other U.S. states with consumer privacy laws may contact us via the links above for any questions; data processed by Cloudflare should be directed to Cloudflare directly.

Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
